In this two hour workshop Nathalie will guide you through the exploration of the back body as we explore the anatomy that supports back-bending postures.
Backbends require sensitivity and awareness of the back of the body, they need to be felt rather than expressed. The reason this is difficult is that the back of the body cannot be seen with the eyes, it has to be felt which is why backbends are considered advanced postures.
We will look at the anatomy of the back of the body, the lumbar spine, back ribs and shoulder blades. You will learn how to integrate them into the postures and explore a variety of drills and exercises using props to bring awareness to some often overlooked body parts like the inner wrists and ankles, the armpits and the heels.
We will look at the placement of the head and neck and how they can affect the lumbar muscles and spine and how to integrate the breath into the postures to maximise intensity without panic or pain.
All levels welcome.
